Since this end result requires additional support outside of eko, this walkthrough covers what the user will need and what the process is from there.
Overview
The split screen choice block is a dynamic way of presenting the viewer with options. It does however require some additional editing work outside of the eko platform to achieve this view. This guide walks through the process of compiling 2, or 3, or 4 videos into one video for the sake of use in a split screen choice block.
Desired result - Combine 4 (or 3 or 2) individual videos using adobe premiere into one video asset presented as a grid to be used in eko:
Tools Needed:
- Adobe Premiere Pro
- Link to download the sample Adobe Premiere project and assets
- It all sits in this folder on the shared dropbox
- It all sits in this folder on the shared dropbox
- In the linked folder, you will find the premiere project, source footage, and sample outputs (grid of 2, grid of 3, and grid of 3).
Note - for users of other editing software:
Assets for split screen choice blocks can be created on any editing software simply by exporting a single video file with a grid of assets organized in the following layout:
- For a grid of 2 videos - place the 2 assets one above the other. Make sure that both files have the same aspect ratio. Example here.
- For a grid of 3 videos - place the 3 assets in a vertical column, one on top of the other. Make sure all 3 files have the same aspect ratio. Example here.
- For a grid of 4 videos - create a 2x2 grid of the video assets. Make sure that all files have the same aspect ratio. Example here.
Once the new assets was uploaded to the eko editor and inserted into a split-screen block, make sure that you align the number of options with the number of video assets in the uploaded grid. If you use a grid of 2 videos, make sure you have two options, If 3, 3 options, and If 4, 4 options. Otherwise the display will be off.
Steps needed:
Step 1
Open the sample project in Adobe Premiere Pro.
The following sequences will be in the project:
Step 2
Upload the videos you’d like to include in the split screen choice block.
Step 3
Open the relevant grid sequence (based on your creative needs) - either grid of 2, grid of 3 or grid of 4. To insert your video into the grid, select the clip in the timeline (they are numbered based on their placement on screen). Next, select your clip in the project window. Finally, click the option key (alt on Windows) and drag your clip over the selected clip in the timeline. See below:
Step 4
Once you’ve replaced all files in the grid, export the sequence to an .mp4 or .mov file.Upload the newly created file to eko. In the eko editor, the video grids will behave like a single video asset from the standpoint of blocks and responsiveness.
When using a split screen choice block, Make sure you align the number of options with the number of video sources in the grid file. If you use a grid of 2 videos, make sure you have two options, If 3, 3 options, and If 4, 4 options. Otherwise the display will be off.
